I laughed aloud

Mondays are trash-collection days in my part of Somerville (the parts that are on Tufts's boundaries). It is the end of the month, and more specifically, the end of August. The last weekend before the beginning of September. A lot of leases run 1 Sept - 1 Sept to follow the academic year. That means that there are a lot of people moving this week. That means there is a lot of trash out on the streets.
Last night as I was traveling around in Somerville, it seemed that half of the people on the street (whether walking or driving) were trash diving. People were stopping their cars next to each large pile of trash to go through them. People were walking down the street from pile to pile. I saw groups of people grabbing chairs, tables, and toasters.
You could easily furnish several apartments using the trash that was out on my street alone last night.
It is rare to see Acuras and Audis stopped to allow their passengers to trash dive, but that is exactly what I saw on numerous occasions last night.
This town is truly the world's largest college town.
