Stuff falling from the sky?

So I was looking out the window to see if it was raining. I wanted to be prepared for the walk to work.

There is a large tree right outside of my window. It still has about half of its leaves. When I looked out, something was falling from the tree. It made it difficult to see if it was raining. I looked past the tree.

The stuff falling from the tree was coming down where there was no tree. For a second I was really confused.

Where could this white powdery stuff be coming from? There are no trees over the street.

I admit that I was confused for a split second or so.

No, I will not have to deal with rain on the way to work today.
